Rack-and-Stack Records with Cable Labelling.
Rack-and-stack installation with documented cable routing and labelling
Part of Data Center Maintenance. Last reviewed October 2026.
Quick answer
What is Rack-and-Stack Records with Cable Labelling?
Rack-and-stack installation is the physical placement of servers, switches and storage into data center cabinets, followed by power cabling, network cabling, labelling and power-on checks. Deploris engineers work from an approved method of procedure, then hand you a cable run sheet, photos, updated rack elevations and confirmation that each device powers on and answers on its management port.
WHAT THE WORK COVERS
What Rack-and-Stack Records with Cable Labelling includes.
- 01Receiving, inspection and serial number verification of each device against the purchase order and packing list
- 02Rail kit assembly, rack-mounting at the U positions in your rack elevation, and cage nut placement
- 03Power cabling to separate A and B PDU feeds, with outlet and phase recorded for each power supply
- 04Network and management cabling to patch panels or top-of-rack switches, routed and dressed through vertical and horizontal managers
- 05Machine-printed labels on both cable ends and on each device, using TIA-606 style or your own naming convention
- 06Power-on, POST confirmation and out-of-band management check (iDRAC, iLO or equivalent) before the engineer leaves the cabinet
HOW WE DELIVER IT
How it is delivered.
- 1
Plan the install from your elevation
We review the rack elevation, power budget, port map and cable lengths, then write a method of procedure that lists each device, U position, cable and label before anyone enters the room.
- 2
Receive and stage equipment
Engineers check cartons against the packing list, record serial numbers and confirm rails, power cords and optics are present. Missing items are flagged before the window opens.
- 3
Mount, cable and label
Devices are racked bottom-up for weight, powered from separate A and B feeds, cabled to the port map and labelled at both ends as each cable is landed.
- 4
Verify and document
Each device is powered on, checked through POST and reached on its management port. We photograph the front and rear of each rack and update the cable run sheet.
INPUTS AND OUTPUTS
What you provide and what you receive.

You receive
- Cable run sheet listing source port, destination port, cable type, length and label
- Front and rear rack photos showing the final state
- Updated rack elevation with serial numbers and U positions
- Power-on and management-port test results for each device
- Closeout report that supports your change record and asset update
WHEN IT FITS
When this is the right deliverable.
You are deploying a new cluster of servers into a colocation cage and want power redundancy and labelling correct before the OS team starts work.
You have a refresh with dozens of devices landing in one weekend window and need extra hands that already work from a method of procedure.
Your own staff are remote from the facility and you need an installer who can confirm out-of-band access before the shift ends.
