Solution
Wireless complaints
Measure first, find the cause of the drops and slow speeds, fix it and survey again to prove it.
Quick answer
What is the answer?
Fix wireless complaints by measuring the network before changing it. Record what users report and where, run a validation survey and a spectrum check to find coverage gaps, interference and settings faults, then fix the cause and survey again. A before and after report shows whether the problem is solved.
WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE
The situation.
People say the Wi-Fi is slow. Calls drop in one corner. A scanner loses its connection every time it passes a doorway. The complaint is real, but it is vague: nobody knows if the cause is coverage, interference, too many devices, an old access point or a setting.
The usual response is to add another access point or reboot something. Sometimes that helps. Often it makes things worse, because an extra access point on the same channel adds interference instead of capacity.
A reliable fix starts with data. A site survey shows signal, noise and channel use across the floor. A spectrum check shows non-Wi-Fi interference. Together they point to the actual cause, and a second survey after the change shows whether it worked.
What goes wrong when it is handled badly
- Access points are added without a survey, which adds interference and cost.
- Complaints are closed after a reboot, then return the following week.
- Non-Wi-Fi interference is missed because only Wi-Fi was measured.
- Settings are changed on the controller without a record, so nobody can undo them.
- Roaming faults are blamed on devices when the design is the cause.
- No after-fix measurement exists, so the team cannot show the problem is solved.
HOW WE HANDLE IT
How we approach it.
STEP 01
Write the scope and record the complaints
We list the areas, the symptoms, the affected devices and the times. The scope sets what is measured and what changes are allowed.
STEP 02
Survey the current state
An engineer runs a validation survey with Ekahau and checks the spectrum for interference. Results are mapped to the floor plan.
STEP 03
Review the controller settings
With the access you grant, we compare survey findings with channel, power and roaming settings. Recommended changes are documented for your team or made if you authorize them.
STEP 04
Fix the cause
Changes may be settings, access point positions, added or removed access points or cable faults. Each change is recorded.
STEP 05
Survey again and report
A second survey shows the result against the first. You receive heat maps, photos, the settings record and open recommendations.
What you receive
- A written scope with the complaint areas and symptoms
- A validation survey report with heat maps
- A spectrum and interference findings summary
- A record of every setting or position change made
- A before and after comparison of the affected areas
