Change management support for planned infrastructure modifications

Quick answer

What is Change Management Support for Infrastructure Modifications?

Infrastructure change management support is on-site help planning and carrying out approved modifications to servers, networks, storage and power systems under a controlled process. Deploris prepares implementation and backout plans, works inside your change record and window, performs the physical and hands-on steps, and records validation results for the post-implementation review.

WHAT THE WORK COVERS

What Change Management Support for Infrastructure Modifications includes.

  • 01Implementation plans that list steps in order, the engineer responsible for each and expected duration
  • 02Backout plans with a defined decision point, so reversal is triggered by a rule, not by improvisation
  • 03Pre-change evidence: configuration backups, array state, photographs of cabling and port maps before anything is moved
  • 04Work inside your ticketing or change records, whether the change is standard, normal or emergency in your process
  • 05Execution in the approved window, with a status update at the start, at the decision point and at completion
  • 06Post-change validation tests such as link state, redundancy, connectivity, monitoring status and application owner sign-off
  • 07Support for CAB preparation, including risk wording and impact statements drawn from our site knowledge

HOW WE DELIVER IT

How it is delivered.

  1. 1

Scope the change and its blast radius

We establish what is changing, what depends on it and what could go wrong. Typical changes include moving a server between racks, replacing a switch, adding a PDU or decommissioning equipment.

  2. 2

Write the implementation and backout plans

The plan sets the sequence, the pre-checks and the test that proves success. The backout plan states the point at which we stop and reverse, and what restores the previous state.

  3. 3

    Execute in the window

The engineer takes the pre-change evidence, follows the plan, records deviations, and calls the decision point with your change owner. Hands-on steps that require your administrators are scheduled in the same bridge.

  4. 4

    Validate and close

Validation tests run before the change is closed. You receive the completed record, photos and test results for the post-implementation review, and updated documentation if cabling or port assignments changed.

INPUTS AND OUTPUTS

What you provide and what you receive.

You provide

  • Your change process, templates and approval path, including who sits on the CAB
  • Approved change records and maintenance windows
  • Technical owners available on call or on the bridge during the change
  • Current documentation for the equipment affected, even if it is incomplete

You receive

  • Implementation and backout plans attached to the change record
  • Pre-change and post-change evidence with photos and configuration backups
  • A completed execution log with times, deviations and the decision made at each checkpoint
  • Validation results aligned with your acceptance criteria
  • Updated rack, cabling and port documentation where affected

WHEN IT FITS

When this is the right deliverable.

Scenario 01

You are moving or replacing core equipment and need a person on site who will follow your change process and not skip steps under time pressure.

Scenario 02

Your internal team writes the changes but has no one near the remote site to perform the physical steps during the window.

Scenario 03

A change failed in the past because there was no backout plan, and you want planned reversals and evidence in every future change.

WHERE WE DELIVER

QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions.

What is infrastructure change management in IT operations?
It is the process that controls modifications to infrastructure so that risk is assessed, approvals are recorded and work is tested and reversible. Typical elements are a change request, impact assessment, approval, implementation plan, backout plan, execution in a window and a post-implementation review.
Does Deploris use our change management process or its own?
We work inside your process, templates and ticketing platform. If you do not have a formal process, we supply plain plan, backout and validation templates that you can adopt. Either way the change owner on your side keeps approval authority, and we perform and document the agreed work.
What is a backout plan and why does it matter?
A backout plan describes exactly how to return to the previous working state if a change goes wrong, and when to decide to do so. It matters because decisions made under pressure in a window tend to extend outages. A defined decision point makes reversal a planned action.
Can you handle changes across several sites in one project?
Yes. For multi-site changes we use one engagement manager, a common plan and local engineers at each location, with status consolidated for your change owner. Each site has its own window, evidence set and validation results, so a problem at one site does not obscure the others.
