SD-WAN edge device deployment with site-by-site validation

Part of Network & Security Support. Last reviewed October 2026.

Quick answer

What is SD-WAN Edge Device Deployment?

SD-WAN edge device deployment is the staging, installation, and activation of software-defined WAN routers at each branch so they register with your orchestrator and carry traffic over the circuits you chose. Deploris engineers install each edge, bring up zero-touch provisioning, test every link, and return a validation record per site.

WHAT THE WORK COVERS

What SD-WAN Edge Device Deployment includes.

  • 01Edge device staging with serial numbers claimed in your controller or orchestrator, licenses assigned, and templates attached before shipping
  • 02Physical installation at the branch, including power, LAN handoff to the switch or firewall, and labeling of every WAN port
  • 03WAN circuit handoff checks for broadband, MPLS, and LTE or 5G links, including VLAN tagging, IP assignment, and speed verification at the demarcation point
  • 04Zero-touch provisioning activation and confirmation that the edge registers, receives its policy, and forms tunnels to hubs or cloud gateways
  • 05Verification of application-aware routing, QoS markings, and failover between primary and secondary links
  • 06Per-site pass or fail record, with fault escalation to your network team and the vendor support desk when a site does not come up

HOW WE DELIVER IT

How it is delivered.

  1. 1

    Plan waves and site data

We agree the rollout waves, build a site tracker with addresses, circuit IDs, ISP contacts, and device serials, and confirm which templates apply to which site types.

  2. 2

    Stage and ship

Edges are checked against the controller inventory, upgraded if required, and shipped with site-labeled packaging so ZTP can begin the moment power and a WAN link arrive.

  3. 3

    Install and activate

A local engineer mounts the edge, connects the circuits and the LAN, powers it on, and watches the controller until the device registers and downloads its policy.

  4. 4

    Validate each site

We test tunnel state, path selection, failover, and local application access, then record the result in the site tracker and file the per-site report before closing the visit.

INPUTS AND OUTPUTS

What you provide and what you receive.

You provide

  • An SD-WAN design with templates, policies, and the controller or orchestrator tenant ready for onboarding
  • Edge hardware and licenses, or a procurement list so we can verify what arrives
  • Circuit details for every site, including carrier order numbers and expected handoff type
  • A site contact and building access arrangements for each location
  • A named escalation contact on your network team for sites that fail validation

You receive

  • Installed and activated edge devices registered in your controller
  • A site tracker updated with install date, serials, circuit results, and pass or fail status
  • Per-site test evidence covering tunnel state, link failover, and throughput on each WAN circuit
  • Photos of the demarcation, edge, and cabling at each location
  • A summary of faults found, such as carrier handoff errors, with the action taken

WHEN IT FITS

When this is the right deliverable.

Scenario 01

You are replacing MPLS at dozens of retail or clinic locations with broadband and LTE links, and each store needs an installer who can confirm the circuit before leaving.

Scenario 02

Your SD-WAN vendor ships ZTP-ready hardware but nobody at the branch can plug it in, verify the ISP handoff, and confirm the device registered.

Scenario 03

You need a repeatable per-site validation record so the central network team can sign off each wave before the next one starts.

Local, vetted engineers deliver this work on site across the United States and Western Europe, coordinated by one engagement manager.

QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions.

How does zero-touch provisioning work during an SD-WAN rollout?
The edge is pre-registered by serial number in your orchestrator. When it powers on and gets a WAN connection, it contacts the controller, downloads its configuration, and builds tunnels. Our engineer supplies the physical install and watches the controller to confirm success.
Do you coordinate with internet providers on SD-WAN circuit installs?
Yes. We track install dates, confirm the carrier handoff type, and test the circuit at the demarcation before connecting the edge. If the carrier delivers the wrong handoff or speed, the finding goes into the site record and to your team.
What happens when an SD-WAN site will not register with the controller?
The engineer checks power, cabling, and the circuit first, then looks at DHCP, DNS, and firewall behavior at the demarcation. If the cause is not local, they work with your network team and the vendor support desk and document the result before leaving.
How many SD-WAN sites can you roll out at the same time?
It depends on site complexity, circuit readiness, and geography. We plan rollout waves with parallel local engineers across our 75+ metros and agree the pace in the written scope, instead of promising a fixed number of sites per week.
